MediaAcademy International (“MAI”, “we”, “us”) processes personal data in connection with enquiries, admissions, students, parents/sponsors, TutorNetwork, MAI Centres Network, staff, certificates, payments, reviews and website use. We aim to process data fairly, lawfully, transparently and securely in accordance with applicable Nigerian data-protection law.
1. Information we collect
Depending on your relationship with MAI, we may collect identity and contact details, photographs, date of birth, qualifications and credentials, application and course information, attendance and assessment records, student documents, payment and transaction records, tutor/centre information, communications, reviews, consent records, IP address, device/browser information and security logs. We collect only information reasonably relevant to the service or lawful purpose.
2. Why we use it and lawful basis
We use personal data to process applications and admissions; deliver and administer training; manage tutors, centres, attendance, fees and payouts; issue and verify student documents and certificates; communicate with users; moderate reviews; secure our systems; maintain records; improve services; and comply with legal obligations. Depending on the activity, processing may rely on contract or steps requested before contract, consent, legal obligation, protection of vital interests, public-interest grounds where applicable, or legitimate interests balanced against individual rights.
4. Your rights
Subject to applicable law and lawful exceptions, you may request information about processing, access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, portability, withdrawal of consent where consent is relied upon, and review of qualifying automated decisions. You may also complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission. MAI may verify identity before acting on a request.
5. Children and younger learners
Some MAI programmes serve children. MAI applies additional care to children's data and seeks parent, guardian or other lawful authorisation where required. Information concerning a child should be limited to what is necessary for training, safety, administration and legitimate educational records.
7. Requests, complaints and changes
Privacy requests or concerns may be submitted through the Contact page. Do not send passwords or unnecessary banking credentials. MAI may update this Policy as its services or legal obligations change; material changes will be published on this page with an updated date.
